Cleansed from Hope
Water flows through my hair
Surrounds my ears – submerged,
I hear unfamiliar sounds
A muffled cacophony clear as the mud that covers me
Looking around I see the work of God
At his most destructive,
yet from this will come life,
But at what price? What a price!
I float at speed downriver,
Holding on to this branch for dear life,
A dear life not so dear any more,
I watched as my all was washed away.
Memories of listening to Grandmothers truths,
As she rocked and sang “Those who have no one have God”
I am now admissible into that category but I know,
God is in one of his moods.
I guess I will learn how to spread my hands,
Learn to beg, pretend to be deaf, better still blind,
An art learned by my leaders way back in time
They have taught me, the art of standing by the roadside.
Hope. Forsake.
I smile into the corrupt future
A glint in my eye
A loner, nothing is all I have to lose,
“Those who have no-one have themselves”
and if you will not give then I will take.
Water flows through my hair,
Bodies floating past, like driftwood,
Shocked expressions preserved on bloated faces
Its better where you are child, you are with the only one who cares.
